Logen Ninefingers Though they’re not quite as crushingly heavy, Varego travel similar astral paths to that of Ufomammut, 2nd track ‘phantasma’ being a prime example. This Italian quartet do not hold back and spray this record with relentless, metallic riffing, powerful and inventive percussion and psychedelic vocals that have been treated in the studio to sound like they come from that aforementioned astral plane. It’s testament to the band and the production values that each element is clear in the mix. It gives the album an airy feel and allows the music to breathe rather than being bogged down in a soup of sludge.
